Q&A with Lady T

Monday, 12 December 2016

From managing one of the hottest DJ agencies around to playing out at some of the best super clubs herself, Lady T remains a musical force to be reckoned with.

With an ever growing listenership on House FM, she carved a name for herself with her Pussy Galore club promotion at the world famous Ministry of Sound, which in turn lead to many international club bookings in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Ibiza & Melbourne Grand Prix.

We caught up with Lady T for a quick catch up in the lead up to her set for Backto95 on the 24th...

So you started out running a DJ agency before getting on the decks, what made you make the move across?

The reason I moved across from the DJ Agency to becoming a DJ was that I was in a partnership with my then partner and I decided that I wanted to learn how to beat mix instead, and he would be in charge of the DJ Agency.

Your early sets were heavily influenced by UKG before you found your niche in deep/soulful house … what drew you to the genre?

It was a natural progression for me to change my style from UKG to Deep & Soulful as I always thought you have to move with the times.

It was always going to be House & Garage all the way.

Who have been your biggest mentors and what is the best advice they’ve given you?

My biggest mentors have been my fans; they have kept me going to this day!

With their love and support I feel inspired!!

Top three House heroes?

My top three House heroes are Kerri Chandler, MAW and Demarkus Lewis.

You’ve said before that you started playing on Technics… what do you play on today?

My setup is Pioneer CDJ 2000 Nexus & Pioneer DJM 900 Nexus with Four Technic Decks & 2 KRK Rokit 5 Monitors.

How much preparation goes into planning your sets or do you prefer to turn up and see what happens?

I’m the sort of DJ that has a plan of what I’m going to play, but in no particular order.

You hold a regular slot on House FM every Saturday from midday. Can you sum up your show in three words for us?

Three words to sum up my House FM show would be lively, bumpy and rolling.

Three artists tipped for 2017?

Hanlei Girls (Wicked Vocalists), Josh Butler and Groove Assassin.

You’re playing the HouseFM.net stage on Boxing Day, what’s one track you’re going to play for us?

One track I’m most likely to play on Boxing Day Would be "Inspiration" by Kerri Chandler & Arnold Jarvis

And, finally, what do you have in store for us in the coming year?

I have a few projects coming up next year - one with my promotion, "Pussy Galore", which will be coming back with monthly parties In London & abroad. Also I’m looking forward to doing a DJ Mag tour in Asia with some of the finest female DJs in the world. And setting up my music studio and working with fab producers on collaborations.
